Position: Community Engagement Coordinator

Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence (BBBSI) is the largest BBBS agency in the state and fourth largest in the nation. Our mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth, while working collaboratively to strengthen the quality of the mentoring field and close the mentoring gap. Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence (BBBSI), seeks a Community Engagement Coordinator, who will be responsible for building relationships with Community Umbrella Agencies (CUAs) and Department of Human Services (DHS) to maintain a referral system for youth to be referred for BBBS services and assist with client enrollment, interviewing and matching. This position is based in a routine office environment, with frequent travel during the work day for meetings and offsite interviews with some evening/weekend which will be described during the interview process.
DHS partnership oversight
- Consistently meets with DHS program liaison to discuss grant implementation and goals.
- Meets youth enrollment and match goals to ensure grant requirements are met by BBBSI.
CUA relationship management
- Meets with all Philadelphia CUAs including all levels of organization staff to ensure continued awareness of BBBSI programming.
- Maintains an efficient and effective referral system to ensure appropriate youth are identified, properly informed about program and the required enrollment steps.
- Reinforces referral process through frequent follow-up and communication with CUA staff.
- Conducts the steps for the volunteer, youth and family enrollment process by collecting initial demographic information, completing references and interviewing for involvement in the BBBSI program.
- Writes thorough professional assessments of volunteers and families/clients providing a summary of their interview information, recommendations for acceptance into the program and matching preferences.
- Achieves good, very good, or excellent ratings on all written assessments that are scored for quality review.
- Assists with recruitment of volunteers in specific target areas.
- Presents individual and group orientation sessions, using a Prezi, to explain the program in more detail and encourage possible volunteers to sign-up to mentor in the program.
- Makes recommendations for participation in program based on all data from reviewing all enrollment information and assessments. Effectively aligns volunteer/client interests and qualifications with service options of Agency.
- Pairs volunteers and children in 1:1 matches (goal is 7 matches per month), making recommendations to Match Support staff for subsequent training and support needs, and collaborating with other staff to ensure a smooth transition among functions.
- Ensures the Match Support Team has all the information they need to successfully support the Match and specifically facilitates the scheduling of the match introductory meeting.
- Tracks and analyzes youth enrollment results, implementing and enhancing ways to make recruitment efforts more effective and efficient.
- Writes quarterly reports for DHS.
Academic/Professional Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (or minimum 10 years relevant experience if one does not have this degree) required per national Agency requirements. Must have a valid driver's license and consistent access to a car for the purpose of facilitating off-site recruitment, interviews and meetings. Experience in human services, with youth service organizations and socioeconomically diverse populations is preferred. Experience with Community Umbrella Agencies and Department of Human Services a plus. Must have proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages and possess the ability to effectively utilize BBBSI’s internal database systems for tracking and recording information.
